IAN COOK ON CH SKEAN DHU

I first saw CH Skean Dhu at one of our clubs shows when they were held at Peterlee. He was only a puppy and was being shown by his owner Glyn Carter.I well remember how taken by him and thinking what a prospect he might be.I followed up on his development with keen interest and he simply got better and better

Glyn campaigned the dog fearsly in this country as well as in Ireland and gained
his junior warrant under Mr Jim Bolton at the S.K.C. in 1979, were he also took the RCC on the day. From this win Glyn took the bit between the teeth and campaigned the dog in earnest.
He went on to win a total of 9,CCs 8 with B.O.B. and 6 Res CC,s. He took the
Res,CC two years running at Crufts, under Mr L Hemstock who gave the CC to
CH Karjobri Black Pepper and again the following year under Mr H Latham who
awarded the CC to CH Maradin Master Mariner. I think he was very unlucky on both occasions not to have won top honors. He gained his 3rd CC and title under Mr Norman Berry at the Border Union show in 1980 and looked unbeatable on the day as he often did.. He had great presence in the ring and I always found my eyes would fasten on to him as he realy did stand out from the crowd and Glyn always got the best out of him this was a true partnership of man and dog..

Not only was CH Skean Dhu a truely outstanding specimen of the breed, he also proved himself to be a very good stud dog and produced five champions these were CH Belle Hurricane Duchess, bred by my friend Dave Eddy, CH Spadille spare the Rod, CH Allendale King, CH Spartan Victor, and
CH Rendorn Apollyon owned by Norman and Dorothy Berry. Imyself had the litter brother to CH Rendorn Apollyon who was Rendorn Double Maxim who gained a Res CCat the National Terrier show under Fred Ward.

Glyn also kept a very good daughter from CH Skean Dhu and CH Shepstaff black Pearl who was Pearls little lady who was CH Skean Dhu through and through and had it not been for Glyn working away from home at that time I feel sure she could have been added to the list of champion progeny from him. I will always remember CH Skean Dhu with fondness he was a great dog and had a great temperament for me he was as good as they come.
